JOE LOMBARDO



General Overview

Joe now practices as a tax lawyer after twenty years with KPMG, including as a tax partner and has extensive expertise in all areas of direct and indirect taxes extending across many areas of the law.

He is responsible for providing Blackstone Waterhouse clients with taxation advice across industries and practice areas with a particular focus on working in conjunction with our Corporate and Commercial practice. He also complements our International Business group by providing advice to both local and international clients on taxation structuring and business establishment both here and offshore.

Joe has a wealth of expertise and is currently involved in a variety of projects including:

 

  • Acting as in-house legal counsel.
  • Structuring a large commercial, community and residential development at West Ryde.
  • Obtaining funding for significant offshore infrastructure and humanitarian projects.
  • Establishing a European airline for Connexus Air.
  • Assisting the commercialisation of diesel related technology in Europe with Qatar, Chinese and Australian interests.

Relevant Experience


  • Advising large public, private companies and trust groups on all areas of tax planning particularly restructures and IPOs.
  • Establishing businesses offshore on all continents and in many countries such as Argentina, India, Italy, Indonesia, Chile, Russia, the UAE and China.
  • Advising property developers and construction companies including advising on public private partnerships.
  • Establishing transfer pricing policies for multinational corporations.
  • Advising on wills, trusts, estates, succession matters, securities, asset holding structures, intellectual property and structured income streams.
  • Advice on taxation issues associated with the resource sector and commodity transactions
  • Advising on shipping, ports and logistics with the P&O Group.
  • to deal with divorce and creditors and to protect wealth.

Personal Strengths and achievements

  • Worked closely over 15 years with an iconic Australian family associated with the banking industry to ensure growth and protection of family wealth.
  • Achieved a change in tax law on four occasions for the benefit of taxpayers and the community.
  • Making critical decisions that ultimately resulted in an iconic Australian business being held financially responsible for product liability.
